Volume! Consume! is an experimental jazz tinged rock album that combines the unconventional instrumentation of artists along the lines of Tom Waits and Man Man with a thematic compositional approach similar to Frank Zappa and King Crimson. On this self produced sophomore release, Tribe of the Mountain used every tool available at Chicago’s Engine Studios to craft songs that tell twisted tales – the kind that would be equally at home in a demented children’s movie or a foreign noir film. By keeping the entire writing, recording, and production process within the group, TOTM has managed to craft an album that is completely free of compromises and which will appeal to anyone who enjoys exploring the genre-less fringes of modern music.
As a member of Tribe of the Mountain, this project really meant a lot to me – and I put forth every effort to make it sound the best I could. That being said, I am very happy with the results. This album was tracked on a number of consoles, including an SSL 4000 series and a Trident 80B. We were fortunate to work with some of the best analog gear available, which really help shape the sound of Volume! Consume!
